Little Known Health Benefits Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana has become more and more accepted in the medical community, meaning that certain conditions are being treated by cannabis, such as cancer, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, and Multiple Sclerosis. Those that know about medical marijuana are likely aware that it can be used to treat epilepsy, glaucoma, PTSD, and more. However, there are many more health benefits of medical cannabis than just the treatment of common diseases.

Protects The Brain

Though additional studies are needed in order to truly prove this, the brain can be protected through medical marijuana. Strokes are a leading cause of brain damage and decreased functioning, but medical cannabis can potentially lessen the area affected in the brain, along with improve brain function after the stroke. You can read more about the study here. In addition to improving brain function after a stroke, medical cannabis may be able to help “heal the brain after a concussion or other traumatic injury.” Medical cannabis has powerful neuroprotective properties, which could potentially be a huge breakthrough for those with brain damage.

Long Term Smokers

For those long-time cigarette smokers cannabis may be able to help. In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, marijuana can potentially increase lung capacity, something smokers often need. It can also help smokers quit smoking cigarettes, a much more dangerous substance than cannabis.
