Pain Management Cbd
As many know, the main two ingredients in cannabis are tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, also known as THC and CBD. When it comes to THC, it is shown to be a pain reliever; however, it can have psychoactive effects, which is why some oppose the legalization of medical cannabis. CBD is proven to help with medical conditions such as epilepsy and anxiety, but can also help with pain management! Studies have shown that it is best for chronic and neuropathic pain versus short-term pain you may experience.
What Can CBD Treat?
With research always continuing in the field of medical cannabis, this list is by no means full. However, studies have showcased that the following disorders can be treated, or at least managed, by CBD.
- Cancer-related pain
- Chronic Pain
- Multiple Sclerosis
In the above conditions, patients that treated their condition with CBD in some form, including a topical treatment, saw a marked decrease in symptoms, including pain. As an added benefit, most experienced little to no side effects. Pain from chemotherapy, inflammation from arthritis, neuropathic pain from Multiple Sclerosis, and more were all notably decreased from CBD treatment.
Traditional pain medications typically block activities of enzymes that cause inflammation, swelling, and pain. Unfortunately, this can also cause side effects such as the risk of ulcers, heart attack, or stroke. Where CBD differs is that it operates on a different pathway; CBD acts on the endocannabidoid system and/or vanilloid receptors and can turn on glycine receptors. All of these factors lead to the body’s increase in pain-relieving properties.
